JAN CREER

LAGS (TD) EXAMINER’S CERT IMEB & AGS

Jan Creer is a Speech & Drama teacher, adjudicator, examiner and  playwright, who has a long history in theatre, producing and performance. Jan wrote and produced her first play when she was in high school, and considers herself  lucky to have been given the  opportunity as a child,  to study  drama, music and dancing.

She continued her Speech and Drama studies and gained her Licentiate Teacher’s Diploma with the Australian Guild of Music and Speech (AGMS) and was awarded a Fellowship with the IMEB in 2010. Jan holds her Examiner’s Certificate in Speech and Drama with both the International Music Education Board (IMEB) and AGMS, and besides examining, has adjudicated Speech and Drama Eisteddfods throughout NSW and in the Northern Territory.

Jan started her career in Sydney radio where she worked on children shows with well known radio personalities as well as writing and producing a radio children’s club Christmas show.  Jan also worked producing and writing
plays and pantomimes for musical societies, High Schools and Universities.

With five children of her own and a passion for theatre for young people, she set up the Carlingford Youth Drama School in 1980.

Since then, Jan has trained hundreds of young people who have become confident speakers, used their drama training in the workforce, or gone on to teach and perform themselves.  Her students have also enjoyed great success at Eisteddfods. Those who have completed the exam syllabus have gained their diploma in Speech & Drama.

She has always had a keen interest in writing and has had many plays and poems published for both young and old.  Jan is the author of  children’s books – Double Trouble: Poems to Perform in Pairs or Groups; and Out of Hat: A Collection of 12 Humorous Plays, as well as having poems published in the School Magazine by the Education
Department.

Jan is a member of the Speech & Drama Association of NSW Inc and the Queensland Speech and Drama Association and is a Life Member of the Parramatta Eisteddfod Society.

Jan has a love for Speech & Drama and believes it gives children confidence, creativity and enjoyment not only during their schools years but also teaches vital skills for later life.

In 2015 Jan won the International One Act Play Playwriting Competition organised by the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre  and was also winner of the Audience Choice Award.
