FAQ EISTEDDFODS
The entries for Parramatta and Ryde Eisteddfods Speech and Drama Sections are given out to students in class. If your child is a new student and receives a form, it is felt he/she will be confident to take part in this competition.
Please note the closing date on your forms. Late entries are not accepted and it is best to send off your entry as soon as you receive it.
Is it compulsory to participate?
No, it is not compulsory to enter competition.Students are encourage to take part as there are many benefits. These include:
(a) Work is brought to a performing climax;
(b) It encourages a student to get up and speak in front of an audience;
(c) You can learn by watching others;
(d) Every student, whether they win a prize or not, will receive a report on their work;
(e) Students can work to gain confidence and improve their skills;
(f) Students in Grade 8 and Associate Diplomas Grades must compete in at least one eisteddfod.
What does a student wear?
The main thing is to be neatly dressed as presentation is important.
DO I need to buy a programme?
Yes. A programme is posted out to let each student know what day and session he/she will need to attend. It is the only way you will know when you are performing. You only need one programme per family.
when you receive your programme you will notice some sections are split into A, B, C.D sections. Can I change sections?
Students cannot change sections.
what happens if a student enters the competition and then can't make it?
As a solo performer nothing happens except you forfeit the entry fee.
What happens if my child cannot make a team event?
If any student pulls out of a team situation the whole team would be disqualified as the rule state students cannot be substituted.
If my child does not win an award, where do I collect a report?
From the front desk after the end of the section.
If my child is in the morning session, for example, do I need to be there the whole time?
No. Each section is complete in itself and prizes are awarded immediately at the conclusion.
Do I need to take copies of the poem my child is performing?
For all own choice sections an unmarked copy (not class book) needs to be supplied.
What about readings?
Students need to have a copy of the reading placed on a piece of cupboard - size required - about half the size of a normal book page.
What's the difference between Open, Restricted, and Special Restricted?
Special restricted means competitors have never won a first prize at any Eisteddfod at any time. Restricted means students have not won a first prize at that age in that eisteddfod. Open means open to all competitors of that age.
